The European Union Parliament and Council have provisionally agreed to streamline the deportation process for migrants staying in the bloc unlawfully. According to France 24, the move addresses persistently low enforcement—just 27 percent of deportation orders were carried out last year. Supporters say urgent action is needed. Critics, however, contend the deal reflects capitulation to rising anti-migrant populism rather than sound policy-making.
