The Guardian notes that Productivity Commission commissioner Angela Jackson defended an interim report on the goods and services tax, saying the deal with Western Australia was a costly mistake that should be reversed. She responded to Western Australian Premier Roger Cook’s comment that “east coast clowns” didn’t understand the state and that any changes would rip six billion dollars out of the Western Australian economy. The commission, an independent advisory body, says it will carry on its analysis untouched by political pressure.
