The Directors Guild has negotiated a new contract that limits actors and other non-directors from taking TV directing assignments. According to Variety, the deal also includes health plan improvements and higher streaming residuals. The job-protection provision responds to a 40 percent decline in directing positions over the past four years. The guild is attempting to preserve directing work for career television professionals as streaming has reshaped the industry.
