E-ink displays have long been prized for their low power consumption and eye-friendly screens, but their glacial refresh rates have kept them from general computing. According to Hackaday, researcher Wenting Zhang has made headway on this fundamental limitation, achieving refresh rates up to 60 Hz. That might sound modest, but for E-ink technology, it's a significant leap from the typical single-digit hertz rates that make traditional scrolling feel like watching paint dry. The breakthrough could open E-ink displays to new uses beyond e-readers and note-taking devices.
