Announcing the MATS Residency: A New Path for Experienced Researchers Working on AI Safety, or Moving Into it

ai

LessWrong reports that the Machine Intelligence Research Institute’s MATS program has opened applications for its new Residency, a six‑to‑twenty‑four month fellowship aimed at experienced AI safety researchers. The program offers three tracks—Bridge, Anchor and Incubation—each providing a salary of one hundred fifty‑five thousand dollars to two hundred eighty‑five thousand dollars, comprehensive health and retirement benefits, unrestricted research compute and up to twenty‑five thousand dollars in relocation assistance. Applicants must submit their materials by thirty‑first October, twenty twenty‑six, with the first cohort beginning in early twenty twenty‑seven. The initiative hopes each Resident will leave with a substantial body of reviewable work that advances safeguards against catastrophic AI risks.
