Civil Records for Hundreds of Thousands of Lebanese Could Be Wiped Out By Israel’s Total War

world

According to The Intercept, as Israeli military operations level towns across Lebanon, hundreds of thousands of civilians face a cascading crisis: the destruction of civil records. Without birth certificates, property deeds, and identity documents, an estimated quarter million Lebanese people have lost the legal proof of who they are and what they own. The erasure of these records creates a humanitarian vulnerability that will persist long after any ceasefire, leaving survivors unable to reclaim property, prove citizenship, or access basic services.
