Yayoi Kusama, the Japanese artist whose polka-dot installations and mirrored rooms made her a global superstar, has died at ninety-seven. The Guardian reports she died in a Tokyo hospital on August fourteenth, with the news announced by her studio. Kusama spent decades living in a psychiatric hospital while continuing to create work across paintings, sculpture, and large-scale installations, drawing on her own experience of hallucinations.
