Education around the world faces an escalating security crisis. According to a new study highlighted by The Guardian, attacks on schools, students, and educators jumped 40 percent between 2024 and 2025. Researchers documented more than 8,500 incidents across 83 countries, leaving over 10,600 people dead, wounded, captured, or detained. The violence concentrates in regions already battered by conflict: Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, Palestine, and Ukraine. The surge signals how instability in fragile regions is actively closing classroom doors.
