Honey bees have their own personal flight paths and fly them with stunning precision

science

According to new research highlighted by ScienceDaily, honey bees are far more methodical navigators than previously understood. Scientists tracked wild bees using drone technology and discovered that each bee maintains its own distinct flight route, repeating their paths with striking precision—some flying mere centimeters from where they'd flown before. The bees use landmarks like trees as visual guides, though they show greater variation over featureless areas like cornfields. The findings suggest that bees don't randomly search for flowers, but instead work within carefully mapped territory.
