"They screwed us": Personality clashes sent Anthropic's models offline
ai
According to Axios, Anthropic has pulled its flagship AI models, Fable and Mythos, from the internet after colliding with the Trump administration over cybersecurity policy. The conflict centers on whether Anthropic adequately addressed government concerns about the models being jailbroken—and whether the company took those concerns seriously. But behind the technical dispute lies a deeper problem: personality clashes and communication breakdowns between Anthropic and administration officials. When Amazon's CEO escalated jailbreak worries directly to Treasury Secretary Bessent, the government swiftly imposed export controls. Anthropic disputes parts of the timeline, claiming it had approval for the models' deployment and did try to resolve concerns. The Commerce Department will meet with Anthropic's technical team Monday to work toward a resolution.
