The Mother of All Deep Space Radio Telescopes Is Going Up in the Nevada Desert
science
Caltech is building what it calls the Deep Synoptic Array—a massive new radio telescope going up in the Nevada desert. According to the project, it'll be more than 100 times faster than any existing radio telescope and significantly larger too. The DSA could scan the sky for transient cosmic events, from fast radio bursts to gravitational wave afterglows, at speeds previously impossible. It's part of a broader wave of next-generation astronomical instrumentation designed to unlock secrets about the universe's most violent and mysterious phenomena.
