In 1955, the motor vessel Joyita departed Apia, Western Samoa, carrying 25 people—16 crew members and 9 passengers, including a government medical officer—bound for the Tokelau Islands. According to Boing Boing, the 69-foot wooden ship never arrived. Days later, the Joyita was discovered drifting in the Pacific Ocean, still seaworthy but completely empty. The fate of all 25 people aboard remains one of maritime history's most puzzling disappearances.
