GOP heads to Supreme Court after losing case over TV election ad prices
politics
Ars Technica reports that Republican campaign committees are asking the Supreme Court to require broadcast stations to offer lower rates for election advertisements. The request would broaden the “lowest unit charge” rule—which already limits what individual candidates pay during the final sixty days before an election—to political parties and joint fundraising committees. The Federal Communications Commission had earlier ordered the discounts, but a Fourth Circuit panel blocked the order, leading the GOP to seek review by the nation’s highest court. The case now moves before the Supreme Court.
