Nepal floods highlight increased risks of melting glaciers as Himalayas warm

A deadly flash flood struck Nepal on Wednesday, and preliminary investigations point to a large chunk of glacier breaking off and temporarily damming a river, PBS NewsHour reports. Scientists have long warned that warming in the Himalayas is accelerating glacial melt, raising the risk of exactly this kind of sudden, destructive flooding.
