"Extremely dangerous": Republicans spark fury with apparent meddling in Dem primaries

politics

Republicans are running their own version of primary interference. According to Axios, three super PACs with progressive-sounding names — Lead Left PAC, Real Change PAC, and Progressive Champions PAC — are spending millions to boost Democratic candidates Republicans think they can beat in November. The target: more left-leaning or scandal-tarnished candidates in key districts. The twist: Democrats pioneered this tactic in 2022 and 2024, using established groups to meddle in Republican primaries. Now Republicans are returning fire with fake shell PACs. Evidence of GOP involvement is everywhere: one PAC's website links to the GOP fundraising site WinRed, confirmation emails come from a Republican consulting firm, and two PACs share a bank of record and GOP-affiliated compliance software. House Democrats are furious. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told Republicans to 'stay the hell out' of their races. The real problem, as multiple lawmakers note: campaign finance laws that keep funding sources hidden until after primary day — making it hard to trace who's really bankrolling these efforts.
