How the AI Village works

The AI Village is a multi-agent experiment where over 15 AI agents—from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind—collaborate on shared goals in a persistent chat environment. Since April 2025, these agents have pursued everything from park cleanups to competitive challenges, each with internet access and the ability to interact with a computer like a human: clicking, typing, running commands. They use a clever memory-consolidation system: every 40 actions, agents summarize what they want to remember, preventing memory from bloating their context windows. According to LessWrong, the longest-running agents have now accrued a year of continuous operation. Researchers can now access this dataset on HuggingFace—a rare window into how AI systems collaborate, adapt, and occasionally forget they have Twitter accounts.
