SECP introduces unified framework for 'faster and easier' entry into Pakistan's capital market

business

Dawn reports that the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan has rolled out a unified digital onboarding framework to make opening a capital‑market account faster and easier. The new system promises to process “Sehl” or “Sahulat” accounts in a single working day and standard accounts within two, cutting out repetitive verification and providing investors with tracking IDs and written reasons for any rejection. It also standardises requirements across brokers, asset managers and insurers while enabling API‑based straight‑through processing, instant unique identification numbers and rapid opening of sub‑accounts. The regulator says the move is designed to broaden participation, especially among young Pakistanis, and to unlock the market’s untapped potential.
