Hellfire Club Ruins in Ireland
other
On Montpelier Hill outside Dublin stand the charred ruins of an 18th-century hunting lodge with a notorious past. According to Atlas Obscura, after its owner's death in 1729, the building became the headquarters of the Irish Hellfire Club—a group so infamous for debauchery and occult rumors that Jonathan Swift called its members 'blasphemers and Bacchanalians.' The Club's leader reportedly dressed as Satan and presided over dark rituals. In 1741, the lodge burned down completely—accident, arson, or divine intervention, no one quite knows. Today, the ruins remain a magnet for history enthusiasts and ghost hunters seeking to solve the mystery.
