An Orbital StormWall Could Mitigate The Next Carrington Event
tech
In 1859, a geomagnetic superstorm disabled telegraph networks across the planet. Today, Earth depends on power grids and satellites far more vulnerable to solar storms. According to Hackaday, scientists are developing an orbital 'StormWall'—a deflection system positioned in geosynchronous orbit that could shield critical infrastructure by diverting dangerous particles before they strike. The concept uses strategically released gas in the magnetosphere to protect against the next potential Carrington-scale event.
