Scientists melted a diamond and cracked a secret of ice giants

Researchers have successfully mimicked the process believed to cause diamond rain within ice giants like Neptune and Uranus. As Phys.org tells it, scientists have long suspected that the extreme pressures and temperatures inside these planets create this phenomenon, and they have now recreated that process in a lab setting.
