Scientists have found that chemically inducing hypothermia—lowering body temperature—can reduce brain damage from stroke. In experiments with mice, monkeys, and people, the treatment showed promise at limiting injury. According to io9, the approach appears to give the brain a critical window to recover after a stroke occurs.
