Why I think polyamory is net negative for most people who try it

In a LessWrong essay, writer KatWoods argues that polyamory is net negative for most people who try it. Drawing on seven years of her own experience, she says most people can't meaningfully reduce jealousy, and that poly relationships create exponentially more room for conflict because there are no default norms to fall back on. She also points to a reporting bias: the people who write books about polyamory tend to be the ones it works well for, while those who struggle quietly don't. Woods says she's now been monogamous for four and a half years and has had less relationship drama in that entire time than in almost any month of her poly career.
