Latine Immigrant Representation Drops to 25% Across Scripted TV: Industry ‘Cannot Rely on a Few Programs to Represent the Whole’

A new report from Define American and USC's Norman Lear Center finds that just 25 percent of immigrant characters on scripted television are Latine. The study analyzed 201 immigrant characters across 62 shows aired between July 2023 and June 2025. The finding highlights a concerning gap: the industry cannot rely on a handful of programs to represent an entire community.
