Mexico has ended a four-decade World Cup drought. According to NPR, the team defeated Ecuador in knockout competition—Mexico's first knockout victory since nineteen eighty-six. Between nineteen ninety-four and twenty eighteen, Mexico lost seven consecutive times at this stage. The team also failed to advance past the group stage in twenty twenty-two. With this win, Mexico advances further in the current tournament, finally snapping one of soccer's longest postseason slumps.
