Giving the NES an Optical Data Storage Add-On

A hardware enthusiast known as Throaty Mumbo has created a custom optical disc drive add-on for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. As Hackaday tells it, the project uses an RP2350B microcontroller to stream game data from an IDE CD drive to an Everdrive cartridge. The system also utilizes a digital-to-analog converter to feed audio samples directly into the console's expansion port, simulating a feature the eight-bit system never officially had.
