These bees have nowhere to hide from extreme heat

science

According to a major study of Australian native bees, stem-nesting bee species may be among the first casualties of climate change. Unlike bees that burrow underground, these species have limited ability to escape extreme heat. The research reveals a striking vulnerability: even tropical bee species, already adapted to hot climates, show little resilience to warming. The study suggests that behavior—how and where bees nest—could be the deciding factor in which species survive our warming world.
