Help Us Investigate Abusive Coaches in Youth Sports

ProPublica is expanding its investigation into how youth sports organizations have handled coaches accused of sexual abuse. The outlet has already identified eight coaches still working with kids through the Amateur Athletic Union despite being banned by SafeSport, the congressionally created center that tracks such bans, and has reported on a Texas volleyball coach who kept coaching after a SafeSport ban and is now under Homeland Security investigation. The AAU says it is committed to protecting athletes through its Compliance Department's oversight. ProPublica is now asking the public for tips on banned coaches still working with children, and on how misconduct plays out in basketball, a sport where SafeSport has far less reach than in many others.
