A week after devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela, rescue operations continue as the humanitarian toll mounts. At least two thousand two hundred ninety-five people have been confirmed dead, with more than eleven thousand injured. According to France 24, emergency workers from seven countries are working to rescue a forty-three-year-old security guard, Hernan Gil, who has been trapped in rubble for eight days in the coastal city of Catia La Mer. Rescuers describe his survival as miraculous. The United Nations is procuring ten thousand body bags as search efforts extend across the country.
