Starmer vetoes Tuchel’s day-off-school proposal after 1am match against Mexico

sports

England's World Cup team is set to face Mexico in a match kicking off at one in the morning UK time, with play potentially running until three. Head coach Thomas Tuchel suggested parents let children skip school to stay up and watch. But Prime Minister Keir Starmer had other ideas: kids are going to school on Monday morning, he said. Education Minister Jacqui Smith even suggested a "disco nap" on Sunday so everyone could be fresh. According to The Guardian World, Tuchel's pitch for a school-free Monday didn't land with the government.
