In the early days of internet culture, a mysterious figure using the handle TimeTravel_0 claimed to be an American soldier from the year twenty thirty-six. Starting in November two thousand, he appeared on an internet forum called the Time Travel Institute, posting that he'd been sent back to nineteen seventy-five to retrieve an IBM fifty-one hundred computer—a machine needed to debug legacy code in his time, and one his grandfather had helped build. The posts spawned one of the internet's most enduring urban legends. According to Boing Boing, by two thousand and one, TimeTravel_0 had simply vanished, leaving behind only mystery and speculation about the world's most famous time traveler.
