According to France 24, about a third of the country is under a national heat red alert, with temperatures expected to reach forty degrees Celsius in some areas. In response, French authorities have restricted public alcohol consumption and cancelled certain outdoor sports events. Emergency services and the military have been placed on wildfire alert as the extreme heat poses a growing risk.
