According to the Guardian, Shabir Ahmed, the seventy-three-year-old leader of the Rochdale grooming gang, was released from prison on Thursday despite a two thousand twenty-three assessment that deemed him to pose a 'very high risk of serious harm' to children. Ahmed was convicted in two thousand twelve for rape, abuse, and trafficking of girls. His release comes after three failed parole attempts, with the most recent rejection in October of two thousand twenty-four. The Guardian's investigation reveals that even as his release was being considered, officials had assessed him as presenting a high risk of sexual offending.
