Zelensky stripped of Poland's top award amid diplomatic spat

politics

Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky has returned a state decoration from Poland, according to France 24. Poland stripped him of the award after Zelensky renamed a Ukrainian military unit to honor the World War Two-era Ukrainian Insurgent Army. Poland views that group's historical involvement in massacres as genocide. In protest, two former Ukrainian presidents and other senior officials have also returned their Polish awards. The dispute highlights tensions between the two countries over historical memory, even as they remain allied against Russian aggression.
