sqlite-utils 4.0rc2, mostly written by Claude Fable (for about $149.25)

Developer Simon Willison used Claude Fable to help finalize sqlite-utils, a Python database library. Through about one hundred forty-nine dollars in Anthropic subscription costs, Fable reviewed the release candidate over thirty-seven prompts and thirty-four commits, discovering five critical bugs. The most serious was a flaw that would silently cause data loss when deleting records—one Willison himself had missed. Fable then refined the transaction system and wrote comprehensive documentation. As a final check, Willison had GPT-5.5 audit Fable's work, a practice he now routinely follows. AI models auditing each other's code have proven surprisingly valuable for catching edge cases.
