Once an agent does real work—reading files, running tasks—somebody must take responsibility. Yet many teams can't answer: who owns this? Jones distinguishes between assistants, which are chat tools you experiment with, and real agents working on your behalf. When you cross that line, an agent becomes your responsibility. It needs feeding, boundaries, review loops, and ongoing maintenance. Teams that assign clear ownership to each agent pull ahead. Teams that don't end up with orphaned agents, accountability gaps, and broken workflows. The skill most teams lack isn't building agents. It's managing them.
