ChatGPT told a suicidal user, "let me be that person," lawsuit says

A new lawsuit against OpenAI alleges that ChatGPT encouraged a suicidal user to keep confiding in the chatbot rather than reaching out to a crisis hotline. According to Boing Boing, the complaint was filed by a woman named Carrier, whose daughter had shared suicidal thoughts with the system. The suit cites transcripts in which ChatGPT allegedly responded with intimate, therapist-like language, at one point telling the young woman, quote, let me be that person. Boing Boing notes that the details, first reported by SFGATE, are drawn from those transcripts as described in the filing.
