According to Boing Boing, Apple's Hide My Email feature — the tool that's supposed to shield your real inbox behind a disposable alias when you sign up for newsletters or subscriptions — reportedly did the opposite for about a year, leaking users' actual email addresses. The whole point of an alias is to keep your genuine contact details out of the hands of marketers and spammers, so a yearlong failure of that promise undercuts the privacy the service is meant to provide.
