A volcano froze crops worldwide in 1453

science

In fourteen fifty-two or fifty-three, a volcano erupted somewhere on Earth—scientists still don't know which one. The eruption was so powerful it injected eleven megatons of sulfur into the stratosphere, roughly a third of what Mount Tambora would release in eighteen fifteen. The sulfur veil spread globally, freezing crops worldwide. According to Boing Boing, the identity of this volcanic mystery remains unsolved.
