Republicans ask WNBA to protect Caitlin Clark from possible ‘racially motivated’ attacks

sports

According to The Guardian, eleven Republican politicians have written to the WNBA, urging the league to do more to protect Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark from what they describe as repeated on-court attacks. Clark has drawn a series of hard fouls since entering the league in twenty twenty-four following a standout college career at Iowa. In a recent game, Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas struck Clark in the throat; no foul was called at the time, but the WNBA later suspended Thomas for one game. The Guardian notes that Thomas and her family subsequently received racist abuse and death threats, and that Black players in the league routinely face racist harassment.
