Nigeria says army has killed 300 bandits in north-western state of Zamfara

Nigeria says its army has killed more than three hundred members of kidnapping and cattle-rustling gangs in the north-western state of Zamfara. The Guardian reports that government troops targeted the gangs in the Gummi district during a two-day operation, which the state's information commissioner described as eliminating more than three hundred terrorists. Armed groups made up of cattle rustlers and jihadists have long terrorized communities across northern and central Nigeria.
