US and Iran exchange strikes as Tehran again says strait of Hormuz is closed
world
The Guardian reports that Iran has again declared the strait of Hormuz closed, after its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said a vessel travelling an unapproved route was struck and brought to a halt on Sunday. The Guard said the ship had jeopardised maritime security by switching off its systems, and warned that any retaliation would draw a severe response. According to the outlet, the incident drew strikes from US forces, which framed the action as an effort to degrade Iran's ability to attack civilian mariners. Iran gave no further details about the vessel.
