Judge blocks Trump subpoenas targeting Minnesota Democrats
politics
Minnesota's chief federal judge has blocked Trump administration subpoenas targeting top state Democratic officials, including Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. According to the ruling, U.S. District Court Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz determined that the subpoenas—issued during an immigration enforcement operation called Operation Metro Surge—were designed to pressure state and local officials into assisting with federal immigration enforcement. The judge called the subpoenas a blatantly unlawful and unethical use of the grand jury process, finding overwhelming evidence they were issued to target political opponents. Governor Walz stated that the case demonstrates the Justice Department is pursuing investigations into the president's political critics.
