Investigating Annealing as Fix for Poor CF Adhesion in 3D Prints

tech

Carbon fiber reinforced 3D prints promise stronger parts, but researchers have found a weak link: the chopped fibers don't bond well with the thermoplastic matrix. According to Hackaday, engineer Maya Posch has been investigating whether annealing—heating and cooling the finished print—might strengthen that adhesion. Early results suggest the process could improve the fiber-plastic bond, potentially making carbon fiber composites more reliable for demanding applications.
