According to Boing Boing, a Dutch television repairman named Jan Sloot claimed in nineteen-ninety-five he'd cracked an impossible compression problem: fitting an entire feature film into a single kilobyte of data. The so-called Sloot Digital Coding System defied a basic law of information theory, the principle that this much unique video cannot actually be squeezed into such tiny storage.
