Show HN: YouTube Guitar Tab Parser
dev_tools
A developer has shared a new command-line tool on Hacker News that extracts guitar tabs from YouTube videos and turns them into PDF files. The approach bypasses traditional transcription by taking a more direct route: download the lesson video, use Claude's vision capabilities to identify where tabs appear on screen, crop those regions from each frame, eliminate duplicates based on bar numbers, and stitch everything together into a single document. The creator acknowledges the tool is still early and has only been tested on a limited set of videos, so rough edges are expected. But it tackles a real problem—existing transcription services often fall short for guitarists trying to learn from online lessons.
