DOOMQL

dev_tools

Developer Peter Gostev asked a deliberately unreasonable question: what if SQLite ran the game engine, not just stored the data? The answer is DOOMQL, a Doom-like game where SQL handles movement, collision, enemies, combat, and every pixel on the screen. Simon Willison's Weblog reports that Gostev built it using GPT-5.6 Sol—a working terminal game complete with a ray tracer implemented in a single recursive SQL query. Willison created a Datasette App to visualize the game state live, pulling a tactical minimap straight from SQL.
