Texas Democrats Ask for Investigation Into Ken Paxton After Our Reporting Found He May Have Violated Election Law
politics
Per ProPublica, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton voted six times over the past two years while registered at a Collin County address where he no longer resides — he moved out in June twenty twenty-four, according to his wife's divorce filing. Paxton secured the Republican nomination for United States Senate using that registration when he won May's primary runoff. The Collin County Democratic Party filed a complaint asking the state secretary of state to investigate potential election fraud. The irony cuts deep: Paxton's office warned voters this very year that misrepresenting their residence on election records is illegal. Three election officials told ProPublica the Attorney General may have violated state law, which requires voters to be registered where they actually live. The secretary of state will review the complaint and refer it to Paxton's office if warranted — creating an obvious conflict of interest and prompting election lawyers to call for an independent special investigator.
