Haberman and Swan's "Regime Change": How Trump became "untethered" in second term

politics

Two of the nation's most prominent political journalists are out tomorrow with a new book about what's changed in President Trump's second term. Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan write that Trump has become far more willing to take bold action—but unlike his first term, he's now surrounded by aides who've stopped questioning him. Where Trump once had advisors who pushed back on risky moves, he's now got a circle that sees something almost mystical about him. Swan argues Trump has essentially freed himself from the political constraints of his first term, willing to pursue aggressive foreign policies—military action with Iran, intervention in Venezuela, a global trade war—that he might have avoided four years ago. Behind the scenes, some of Trump's own team have told the authors they wish their boss would show more concern about the hazards he's courting.
