The widely-told origin story of A Clockwork Orange traces back to nineteen fifty-nine, when a doctor supposedly told Anthony Burgess he had a year to live, prompting him to churn out novels to provide for his wife. But The Memory Hole argues, as Boing Boing reports, that this entire narrative may have been fabricated by Burgess himself.
