Malawi rolls out injectable HIV prevention drug amid hope and caution

health

RFI English reports that Malawi is rolling out Lenacapavir, a twice-yearly injectable drug for HIV prevention. The milestone stands in sharp contrast to nineteen ninety-nine, when Patrick Chakwana received his diagnosis with no effective treatment in sight — when the message was simply "AIDS kills." Today, Chakwana welcomes the development with hope, though his reaction remains tempered by caution. Malawi is among the latest African countries to launch the drug.
